Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the blog at this website (the “Site”) collects, how it is used and what choices you have. The Site is operated by S.W. Fowler (“we”, “us”). By using the Site you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
If you use the contact form we receive your name, email address, optional subject and your message. We also store the IP address the message was sent from, to help us prevent spam and abuse. We do not ask for any other personal information, and we ask you not to send details about children.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, our web host and our service providers may log technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the date and time, and the page that referred you. We use it to keep the Site running, secure it and understand which articles help readers.
Cookies
The Site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies. They are explained in detail, with a table, in our Cookie Policy.
2. How we use information
- To reply to your messages and requests
- To operate, secure and improve the Site
- To measure audience and understand which content is useful
- To show advertising that helps pay for the Site
- To meet legal obligations
3. Google AdSense and advertising
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements. Google and its advertising partners are third-party vendors that use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and to other websites on the internet.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to show you personalized ads based on your visit to this and/or other sites.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Visitors in Europe can use youronlinechoices.com.
- To learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
We do not control the cookies that third parties set. Please read their own privacy policies for details. Advertising is clearly labelled “Advertisement”, and the Site is written for adults, not directed at children (see section 10).
4. Google Analytics
We may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site, for example which articles are read most. Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location and device type, and produces reports that we use to improve the Site. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before cookies are used for personalized ads, using a consent message certified by Google. You can accept, decline or manage your choices, and you can change your mind at any time through the privacy settings link where it is shown, or by clearing your cookies. Declining does not stop you from reading the Site. We never block content behind a consent wall.
6. Legal bases (GDPR and UK GDPR)
We process personal data on these bases: your consent (for cookies used for personalized advertising and, where required, analytics); our legitimate interests in running and securing the Site and answering your enquiries; and legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive a portable copy and withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority; in the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner’s Office. To use any of these rights, email info@swfowler.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity first, and we aim to reply within one month.
8. California privacy notice (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion and correction, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. However, the advertising cookies described in section 3 may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. To opt out of this, use Google Ads Settings, the “Your Privacy Choices” or privacy-settings link where it appears, or a browser or extension that sends the Global Privacy Control signal, which we honor. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights. To submit a request, contact us at info@swfowler.com.
9. Sharing and international transfers
We do not sell your data. We share information only with service providers that help us run the Site (hosting, analytics, advertising and email), when the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others. Some of these providers are outside your country, including in the United States, and handle data under their own safeguards.
10. Children’s privacy
Although we write about children’s books, this Site is intended for adults: parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians and homeschoolers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. How long we keep information
Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to answer you and for up to 24 months afterwards unless the law requires longer. Server logs are kept for a short period for security. Analytics and advertising data are kept by those providers under their own policies.
12. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), limited access to our systems and spam protection on forms. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
13. Links to other sites
The Site links to other websites, including our official website and book retailers. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. If we make a material change we will say so on this page.
15. Contact for privacy questions
Email info@swfowler.com or use the contact page.
