Editorial Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

You should know who is behind what you read and how it gets onto the page. This policy explains how articles on this blog are planned, written, checked and corrected.

Our standards

  • Helpful first. Each article must be useful on its own to a parent, teacher or homeschooler: specific tips, realistic steps and clear age ranges, not filler.
  • Honest. We say what we know, mark what is opinion, and do not promise results for every child.
  • Adult-addressed and child-safe. We write for grown-ups. We do not ask children for personal information.
  • Clearly separated from selling. The blog informs and the main website sells. Mentions of The Closet Jungle are brief, relevant and clearly identified as the author’s own work.

How an article is made

  1. Topic. We choose topics from questions parents and teachers actually ask.
  2. Research. Facts are checked against reliable sources before they are written down (see below).
  3. Drafting. The first draft is written to be practical, with examples and activities.
  4. Review. The author, S.W. Fowler, reviews every post, checks the facts, edits the wording and adds personal experience so that it reflects real family and classroom life.
  5. Publish and update. Posts show their published date and, when they change in a meaningful way, an updated date.

Fact-checking dinosaur and science content

Dinosaur facts change as new fossils are discovered, so we do not rely on memory or on a single source. We check claims against sources such as natural history museums (for example the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the Natural History Museum in London and the American Museum of Natural History), university paleontology departments, and peer-reviewed research or reports that summarize it. When scientists disagree or the evidence is uncertain, we say so instead of presenting a guess as fact. For learning and reading advice we look to teachers, librarians and published guidance from reputable education and children’s-health organizations, and we state when something is our own experience.

Use of AI tools

In the interest of honesty: some drafts, outlines or images may be assisted by AI tools. Every post is then reviewed, edited and personalized by the author before it is published. AI tools are not used to invent quotations, studies, reviews or personal stories, and an AI tool is never the final authority on a fact. Images created with AI tools are identified where it matters. See our Copyright & DMCA page for how we handle images.

Advertising and independence

Advertising helps pay for the Site, but advertisers do not choose, review or influence our articles. Ads are labelled and kept apart from content. Details are in the Disclaimer.

Corrections

We make mistakes sometimes. If you find one, please tell us with the article address and what you believe is wrong. We will check it, usually within 5 working days. If we confirm an error we will fix it promptly, and for a significant correction we will add a short note at the top of the article saying what changed and when.

Keeping articles up to date

We review our most-read articles at least once a year, and sooner when something important changes, such as new science or a change to a book’s availability. Outdated posts are updated, merged with a better one or removed.
